WEEK 10: Soccer

Posted by: feedwordpress

I found Eduardo Galeano’s piece “Soccer in Sun and Shadow” quite dramatic. This doesn’t surprise me as someone who has played soccer and watched a lot of soccer on tv there is almost a cult like following the surrounds the sport. What I did find interesting however was his “confession” at the beginning. This is […] read full post >>

Week 10: Football

Posted by: feedwordpress

I found “Soccer In Sun and Shadow” such a good read. It was super engaging, witty and still quite informative. I especially enjoyed how easy it was to read. As someone who doesn’t really understand football, I appreciated this factor a lot. You would probably expect me to know a decent amount about football sinceContinue reading "Week 10: Football" read full post >>

Sports: “Idols and Underdogs: An Anthology of Latin”

Posted by: feedwordpress

This reading was interesting because it showed football as less idealized and it demonstrated how it is connected to Brazil’s popular culture. They idealized playing on the national team, being number 10 or 11, and becoming very rich.Continuar lendo "Sports: “Idols and Underdogs: An Anthology of Latin”" read full post >>

Firstly I want to say that the format that Galeano uses is quite interesting and makes the reading quite accessible, even for someone who is not that interested in football such as myself. What I found interesting from the very start is the distinction that was made between what is the shallow popular culture view … read full post >>

Every FIFA tournament I would plead with my mom to free me from having to watch the games. Yet no matter how much I whined my mother never let me leave,Continue reading "Week 10: Football LAST 201" read full post >>

Week 10: “Soccer in Sun and Shadow” by Eduardo Galeano’

Posted by: feedwordpress

Eduardo Galeano’s “Soccer in Sun and Shadow” is arguably one of the most interesting readings sp far. Explaining the different aspects of soccer in a form of narration both captivating and educational, I kept getting drawn in page after page. Galeano initially starts by explaining the basics of soccer, what they represent, how they feel,Continue reading "Week 10: “Soccer in Sun and Shadow” by Eduardo Galeano’" read full post >>

The Fighting Cholitas

Posted by: feedwordpress

This documentary was really interesting because it led me to a lot of introspection about entertainment. This was a phenomenon that I didn’t know much about. The concept of ‘chola’ that I have known is quite different and not characterized by skirt wearing. I also thought it was interesting that one of las cholitas noted […] read full post >>
